Katrina

This chaos is enormous. A scenario like this was beyond imaginable in the US. Seeing a massively flooded city, with giant buildings in the far distance is just an amazing sight. The tsunami images did nothing for me compared to this. It's sort of like the difference between accidently dropped a glass plate on the ground opposed to dropping fine antique china on the ground. Seeing a famous city like this under water like Atlantis is just stunning.
It's cool because normally when you're driving past something shocking on the highway, you have to keep going and you can only look for a second. But here, we have this massive accident and we can watch it 24/7 and enjoy the entertainment of this chaos. It's ok, you can admit to enjoying it. I know you people were entertained when Jeanne, Francis, and Charlie slammed into me last year. Yes, I got not one, but three delightful hurricanes. And I know everyone else, including those people in New Orleans were watching the coverage on TV and enjoying it as entertainment. I just figure it's my turn. So let's review some of the chaos that's going on.
Isn't all of that fucking lovely? I can't wait for the National Guard to come in and start shooting these stupid motherfuckers. I don't care if they need the food to survive. If they planned on being a stupid fuck in the first place and staying there when a category 5 hurricane was about to slam directly into their home, which is completely surrounded by water and is sitting 10 feet below sea level, then they should have went out and bought the fucking food in the first place. These people, most of them, aren't looting to survive. They're looting because they can. The pharmacy as a Winn-Dixie was cleaned out. I'm sure people just needed their medication, right?
These fucking looters make me sick. Because we have two levels of stupid fuck here. First, they're stupid fucks for not leaving. Now, while you're a stupid fuck for not getting out of there, I can at least understand and see why people might stay. A lot of these people have ridden out the big ones before, and saw this one the same way. That's at least somewhat understandable. The people who made the at least educated choice to stay went and stocked up on supplies because they at least knew this, to a certain degree, would happen.
I also just heard a report of a local Wal-Mart letting people come in and take what they need. I assume they're allowing them to take food, not electonics and what not. That's really great. Wal-Mart even donated a million bucks. I love Wal-Mart. Doesn't that just make you feel all warm and fuzzy to see acts like that come from a place you'd expect nothing but corporate greed?
These fucking people I see on tv, the Darwin-doomed, I am pissed that I see National Guard resources being used on them. These people are going into the streets and stealing anything they can. Reports can't even go in there anymore to show us what's going on because they're going to get robbed or mugged. It makes me sick so see such lawlessness. Why didn't people get up and go? At the least, why didn't they go to the Super Dome? Because they're fucking stupid, that's why. Watch this video of the looting. All black people, stealing beer, shoes, and clothing. Look at the smile on all of their faces. Look how much fun they're having. Survival? I fucking think not.
You're not seeing average Joe Smith walking around saying "Do you know where I can get food?" No, you're see the scum of the earth throwing everything they can into garbage cans at the local Winn-Dixie. People walking down the streets with TVs. I hope these people are shot and killed with automatic weapons tomorrow, instead of being saved from their roof tops. Why can't they just let the strong and smart survive?
And President Bush... Don't you think that today maybe wasn't the best day for a photo op of you jamming out with a presidential acoustic guitar, with that big shit-eating grin on your face? Bad decision, Sir. The left will have a field day with this. And even people who generally support you, or at the least, don't think you're an imperialist tyrant will look down on you and frown upon this poor decision. I would have liked to see the President on TV giving a press conference, or at least giving one of those little "live talks to the nation" things instead of that abomination up there. Bad, bad decision.
Update: I saw a white looter on TV! She had no teeth. She was walking out of a Blockbuster I believe. Lots of survival necessities in there I'm sure. They sell candy and popcorn. Regardless, they shouldn't even be in a position where they need to steal to survive in the first place. I really can't wait for the sun to come up so I can see people get shot. I might stay up all day and not sleep so I can witness this. If looters aren't shot, I will be pissed.
Update 2: Those video links aren't working because they contain javascript that works with code on the CNN pages. You'll have to goto their site to see them. Whomp whomp.

My comments on Katrina:
New Orleans was destroyed just two days before the Southern Decadence event (August 31-Sept 5)
which welcomed 200,000 gays to display their naked bodies in the city. Today, 200,000 people are trapped in the city. Looters, snakes, alligators, flooding, total destruction.
The angels helped many people to get out of the city before the horrible destruction of the casinos.
This storm brought the governor of Louisiana to her knees asking God for help.
Where is the separation between Church and State here? A governor asking the people to pray to God??? A bishop should ask the people to pray not the governor.
But I understand that only God can give the people of Louisiana enough strength and hope to build their cities. Atheism cannot do this. Skepticism cannot give hope.
What frustrates me the most is that the US get hit from every side and no other country comes to help. When something happens in Asia or Africa or even Europe, the US is the first country to help generously. This is extremely frustrating. The UN criticizes the US and expects our country to help, but it remains silent when the US is struck by disasters.
Anthony,
PLEASE tell me you do not believe God took lives and devastated millions just because gay people were going to dance around naked!!!
That is the most asinine thing I have ever read!!
Nicki
Anthony,
I did forget to mention that I am 100% in agreement with you on your last paragraph though..
Nicki
Funny this is what I was talking about last week when we were discussing the gas running out. You are seeing it in action right now in New Orleans.
Imagine it on a nationwide scale now.
I too am completely sickened by the typical reaction by the blacks and that is free stuff. Hurricane? Grab some nikes! Rodney King got what. Get a free tv. This illustrates why I am a gunowner. When the Anarchy comes only those with guns get to keep their stuff.
As Brooksie said you cant f with nature, big animal wins.
BTW you are right I would much rather have seen a picture of Bush taking out one of those looters with a presidential 30.06 Rifle.
Matt, are you watching Fox News or something? I've seen white looters on tv. I've seen chicks doing it.
Angel Anthony, the level of ignorance you're showing is downright dangerous.
I'm gonna skip right over the gay part, and get right to that last paragraph. Do you remember how other countries have viewed our country for the past 4 years? Remember the Tsunami relief crap, and how we mostly only covered "lost celebrities"? I like this country, and I hate seeing a COMPLETELY NATURAL event that has NOTHING to do with any GOD destroy and entire city (Gee, from Grand Forks, I guess I wouldn't know anything about flooding, would I?), but this is the US. Outside of general comercial import/export and hospitality, the US should have no obligations to any other country, and vice versa.
Look at msbrooksie's comment again, she made some good points.
Matt,
I agree with most of what you are saying. I am not sure I "enjoy" watching the news and seeing what is going on. I do find it captivating my attention with pure awe, but I am not "enjoying" it. I, too, thought the same about the looters at first. I thought that it was a dispicable thing to do. Then I started rationalizing it a little more. True, I don't think they should have stayed to begin with, but what about the people who literally had no way out? The poor who can't afford to leave? I also thought they should have stocked up better, but where would they put it? These people have NOTHING left. No house. No refridgerator. No town. No NOTHING!!! All they have are the clothes on their backs, and those are infested with diseases. If it came down to it, and my family needed food and water or die. I would not think twice to steal from a store. Even if it was from my own stupidity. I wouldn't be stealing shoes, clothes, or jewelry. I believe those people are wrong. Those things are not necessities for survival, but I would take food and water. The store's insurance is going to cover the expenses anyway. Either way you look at it, we are paying for this food and water. Whether it be us paying higher insurance because of the costs of this disaster or us donating to red cross. So, if they need to take the necessaties, let them. I don't know what should be done to the ingrates stealing the other things.
anthony, again, you have gone off the deep end.
Msbrooksie, I don't think this is the right time to for pride to take over. A little help from the other countries would be much appreciated.
By the way.... What is everyone's gas prices at? We are at $3.79. We were at $2.55 this morning.
PJ
It's sad, but I had to laugh at that last comment...
Our gas has only gone up to $3.25. I say only because $3.79 is obviously higher.
I feel bad for the people that have lost everything in the hurricane, but only for the fact that they lost their homes, etc. I do not feel bad for the people that died because they decided not to leave. There was a mandatory evacuation which means LEAVE. If you can't drive out or afford to go somewhere else then they should have gone to the Superdome. I realize that right now they are trying to get buses together to evacuate the people from the Superdome, but all those people survived. Well, except for the one guy that killed himself, but he was still smarter than a bunch of the people who stayed in their homes. The only people I truly feel terrible for are the children who had to stay in their homes with their dumbass parents. Little kids cannot make the decision to leave, so their parents that are supposed to protect them have to make that decision. Obviously, many of them made the wrong decision. Now there are how many dead children because they got screwed with having idiots for parents?
Brooksie
I probably should not have called anyone any names. That was not needed.
That being said, I still feel the same way.
I don't expect anyone to agree with me or respect it even. I'm not trying to win a popularity contest with my opinions. It's how I feel, and well, that's why I said what I did.
Well I hapen to agree with you.
The people who didnt leave because they thought they could ride it out took a colossal gamble and lost. I think they are idiots and brought disaster on themselves and are endangering the lives of others who have to rescue them. It pisses me off. You can make any excuse for them you want the reality is that most stayed because they were taking a calculated risk. They lost.
All of that having been said I still am glad that we in spite of this roll up our sleeves and help them. It is a disaster of unimaginable proportions and hopefully people that do such stupid things will learn somthing from all this.
James
I agree with you that the people who did survive need help, and should be helped. The thing that I don't understand is that it seems like New Orleans didn't really have a plan if something like this happened. I could've told them what was going to happen. Not meaning that I could forsee the devastation, but all I was doing was watching the news and I could figure out for myself that they would have people stuck in houses, etc.
The people that did make it through the hurricane and flooding are dieing now. It makes me sick when I hear people on the news talking about babies dieing.
You know, anyone who CHOSE to try to ride out a level 5 hurricane and remembering what happened with Camille, that's plain stupid.
Getting caught while trying to get out, that's just unfortunate timing.
Yes, I'm saying these people who died by trying to ride out the storm at home were were being very stupid, and only deserve pity insofar as their children are concerned. Otherwise, I give them as much respect as the looters who take things that have nothing to do with their survival, or maybe a little more than the genius who decided to fire a gun at a Nat. Guard helicopter while the buses were trying to get people out of there.
Life is full of stuff we dont deserve.
If you make a bad decision that costs you your life then you in every definition of the word "deserved" it, hell you earned it. There are exceptions to every rule and you cant use them to paint the whole thing with a broad stroke. Most people stayed cause they thought it would be okay. They were wrong, they made a bad choice, and many payed with ther lives. To me the choice was stupid. Thats not to say that I dont have compassion fo rthe loss of life and humanity but it still seems stupid.
Darwinism in effect
If my child was floating down the street because I decided to stay even though I knew a category 5 hurricane was coming right for us and there was a mandatory evacuation, then yes, I would call myself a complete and total idiot.
I heard that the hurricane was not truly taken seriously until Saturday morning. It takes 72 hours to evacuate New Orleans so it was just impossible for everyone to get out. I have a feeling more people tried to get out than we might think. I am just heart broken over what I am seeing on tv.
Cupcake.
Karissa Mommy,
I hope to god you never ever in your life make a mistake.
Because if you do Karma comes back and gets you!
You will be called a complete and totaly stupid idiot parent.
You are very young and have a long life a head of you!
I hope for your sake you do not make a mistake as these people have.
When you do I will be standing there pointing my finger at you!
Mikey, or anonymous, or whoever I am sorry that your family is missing.
If I make a mistake one day where someone dies because of it then you have every right to call me an idiot. I would be calling myself the same thing.
I also don't think that calling me names is going to get your point across any clearer. You are basically doing to me what you say I shouldn't be doing.
For the record, I am not laughing or pointing my finger at anyone. I'm not sitting here saying that I am glad these people died. I wished, for their families sakes, that they had all made it. Obviously not everyone did. I am simply saying that the choice many of these people made to stay was blatantly wrong. And the proof is that so many people have died.
I'm not trying to hurt or offend anyone by my opinion, but it's my opinion. Everyone has them. You don't have to like it, or agree, but that's life. Can anyone disagree that staying there was a mistake? I can't imagine anyone is sitting here thinking that the people who stayed made the right decision. I don't know what you are so pissed about since I already said that the name calling wasn't necessary. So then what can you disagree with me on?
Also, thanks for stopping by my blog. :)
Amanda
Thanks for letting me know about the links. I didn't realize they wouldn't work.
Anthony
I don't know where you're going with this gay angle, but I am pretty sure that you have been reading some extremely hateful religious websites. Am I right?
I'm also very surprised to see you condemn the LA Governor's actions. I didn't even get a chance to talk about that yet. Very good, and very shocking I must say. I completely agree, and I think that lady is fucking incompetent.
Nicki
I have a feeling he was just throwing the idea out there to see if it stuck.
msbrooksie
I've seen a total of 3 looters on tv. However, you make a very good point. That is a very likely scenario, that white people ARE looting and they're just smart enough to stay the fuck away from cameras. Very good theory.
James
The day I turn 21, I'm buying a gun and applying for a concealed weapon permit. I'm just waiting for this to happen here. I live in the gulf coast, so I'm a sitting duck for something like this. Hell, I got nailed by 3/4 of the major Florida hurricanes last year. And every one of those had already passed across the state before effecting me.
Bush is really, really not handling this well. For the first time ever, I am actually agreeing with the majority of liberals. I saw his interview on Good Morning America, and it made me want to vomit. Diane Sawyer asked him straight up why the oil companies won't cut their profits by 20% to take the burden off the entire nation. He dodged it. He didn't even answer that question. As of today, he is the most un-presidential president I have ever seen.
Brothergrimm
I've been flipping back and forth between Fox News and CNN. I saw one toothless female and two white people whose gender I could not determine.
I also agree that we don't need help from any other nation. We only need help where we're struggling, and that's gas. Can't our good pals, the Saudis, help us out with that?
PJ
I can understand the rationale of the looters. But they shouldn't be there in the first place. They shouldn't be in a position to need to loot. I know there are people who couldn't leave, and there are poor people who couldn't leave. Well, I don't feel sorry for the poor. They're poor because of their own decisions. If they made better choices in life, then maybe they could have left New Orleans. I don't really feel bad for them as a whole. To a certain degree yes, I mean it's not like I'm glad they're dying or homeless or anything. But I don't feel overly sorry for them like most people do.
Karissa
There were buses taking people out of New Orleans, and taking them to the Super Dome. I don't feel bad at all for the people who decided to stay in their homes. It's pure Darwinism.
I also feel terrible for the children. They're miserable because their parents are fucking morons. It's absolutely terrible. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. I read a report earlier about a woman stranded outside the Super Dome with her 11 children. What the fuck?
Thanks for the comment Karissa.
msbrooksie
I'm in agreement with Karissa. I just don't feel too sorry for these people. They should have left. I feel sorry for them to a certain degree, but it's their own fault. If I walked in front of a bus, it would be my fault but people would still feel bad that I died. It's just like that. They chose to take this risk.
Like I said, I feel bad for these people on a humanitarian level, but the fact of the matter is that most, the major majority, chose to stay in their homes and not leave. When someone famous dies from a drug overdose, the way people feel is MUCH different than if they died from natural causes. They made very poor choices, just as people who overdose on drugs do. I do feel empathy for their deaths, but they chose to stay. The people who couldn't leave get a WHOLE lot more sympathy than the people who chose to stay. They're getting what they asked for, and it's sad.
James
I fully agree. What more can I say? You are exactly right. They took a very big risk and lost. If you have children, you just DON'T take risks like that. No matter how poor or sick I was, if I had children, me staying in New Orleans would simply be an impossibility. I would walk like Moses in the desert if I had to. I wouldn't care.
They gambled and lost. And just as you said, I hope this is a heads up to everyone who lives in a hurricane prone area. If a category 4-5 hurricane is coming, get the fuck out. It could turn and not hit you, but it isn't wise to take the chance.
Karissa
I know they had a plan. We've never had a major hurricane here, and we still have hurricane evacuation routes posted EVERYWHERE in this county. These people were just too uneducated and too stubborn to leave. They didn't understand the topography of their land. It's just ignorance...
Brothergrimm
I fully agree. I do, however put the people who chose to stay over the looters. I wish the looters had died, to be honest. I do feel at least somewhat sorry for these people, but I'm not depressed over it like I was with 9/11.
msbrooksie
If it was my friend who died, I would be depressed. I would be pissed that he made such a stupid decision. I would never be in a position where a child of mine would have anywhere near a chance to float down a street. I don't believe they deserved to die, but I certainly am not feeling overly sorry for them. They made their choices.
Every one of these people had the ability to avoid this. I don't care if you have to walk, do it. I know I would have if I had no other way. You're right that every person had their own reason to stay, but everyone also knew a category 5 hurricane was coming for New Orleans. I appreciate hearing the other side of the argument though msbrooksie, and I appreciate the comment.
James
Wow, you just summed up everything I've typed so far, James. Darwinism, definitely. Compassion, yes. Sympathy? A bit, but not much.
Karissa
If my child was floating down the street because I decided to stay, I would find a gun and blow my head off. Who could live with such guilt? If someone stayed and their child died, they deserve to be shot or charged with child neglect.
