America: Free Country*

Let's talk about ways that the Imperial Government has taken away our freedoms. When I was about 12 years old, I wanted to ride my bike to my friend's house, and it was pretty late. I was feeling like I was hot shit at that age so I didn't give a shit what time it was. I was fighting my Mom pretty hard on it. Then she told me that there's a curfew and if a cop saw me, I'd be arrested. I didn't believe it, and I couldn't believe it. But it's true. In my state, you're not allowed to be out past 11 if you're under 16. This was the first time that I realized that we didn't really live in a free country. I grew up believing America was the best country in the word because we're free. I was taught this in school. I always heard everyone say "It's a free country". That's a lie. It's a Free Country*. *We will pass laws to take away any freedoms that aren't explicitly in the Constitution just as long as enough assholes want that freedom banned, or if we believe it will get us reelected.

And that is the fine print of the United States. This story comes from the ultra liberal city of Boston. A man was arrested while attending a New Year's Eve party. Well... He wasn't exactly arrested. He was "detained". What law did he break? Was he being a public nuisance? Was he intoxicated on public property? Was the party loud and obnoxious, and were people complaining? No to all. He did nothing illegal. He wasn't even arrested or charged with any crime at all.

So why was he "detained"? Well, because Massachusetts has a lovely law that gives the police the power to detain drunk people until they are sober. It doesn't matter if you're drunk at Fenway, or drunk by yourself in your own home. They have the power to detain you, effectively taking away the freedom to get drunk. First of all, I hate drunks. I hate being around people who are drunk. They're fucking obnoxious. So there's no bias here. Regardless, they have the right to be drunk and I'm standing up for that right. And so is the guy who was arrested, because he has filed a lawsuit. Good for you man.

Interestingly enough, when the cops were in there stirring up shit at this party, the man in question wised up and got a video camera to record exactly what was happening, because he realized right then and there that his freedoms and civil liberties were being stepped on. What happened next? The officers threw his ass to the ground as soon as he began taping them and cuffed him, and he spent 9 hours in jail. Just because he was drinking on the biggest drinking day of the year.

Way to go Massachusetts! What freedom will you take away next? Is it going to be illegal to shoot a gun, but not illegal to own one? I love that about Florida. Here in Florida, it's illegal to be in possession of any drug contraband, and it is illegal to smoke week. But, it is perfectly legal to sell drug contraband. I walk into gas stations and see pretty glass pot pipes all the goddamn time. But if I were to buy that, and step out of the door while a cop who is standing outside happens to see it in my hands, I would be going to jail. Don't you just fucking love this hypocrisy?

I've said it before, and I'll said it again: This is what happens when the Democrats and Republicans fight constantly like fucking children through legislature. Republican Asshole: "I'll write a bill that bans smoking popes. The Right will love this, and they'll remember this and vote for me in the next election." Our system is a fucking joke, and I'm tired of it. I'm tired of my freedoms being taken away. If I wanna hear "FUCK" on the radio, I should fucking be able to. If someone doesn't like it then they can change the fucking station. But nooooo, no one wants to choose not to listen, or choose not to read, or choose to ignore and walk away. People want to ban everything. Like the fucking nuts saying that my blog should be banned.

I'm tired of this. I'm hope more than anything that one day, I'll believe America is a truly free country again there won't have to be an asterisk.

Thats a little scary Matt. I was going through News articles for my blog and that was one of the ones I came across that really got me fired up.
Idiotic voters and their knee jerk reaction to everything is if there is a problem give up a little freedom to fix it. Benjamin Franklin said "They that give up a little liberty to obtain a little safety deserves neither the safety nor the liberty."
Problem with terrorists? Let us spy on you more easily and make it harder for you to move around not securing the border or profiling the people we know are prone to do this.
Murder rate out of control in certain areas? Lets take away the right of citizens to legally have and posses firearms not do away with a black market drug trade that we created which fuels gang violence.
The answer is more freedom not less. The answer is enforcing a few laws absolutely not creating more and more laws so that everyone is breaking one at one time or another. It pisses me off that I have to wear a seatbelt for my own good. If I don't want to do what is good for me then I don't think Big Brother has a right to tell me to.
It is a gradual chipping away of our rights so that we don't notice. James Madison said "There are more instances of the Abridgment of freedom by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. Sound familiar? It is time for America to wake up and notice. Out down your Ipods and stop watching your 300 satellite channels and following the news of what Tom Cruise said today and pay attention to something that really matters. We are becoming slaves. Sbut surely we are becoming subjects of a corrup ruling class.

Then you say Matt should increase his vocabulary a LITTE?!? If your attacking someones intelligence and vocabulary you should damn sure use a spell checker don't you think.
Lastly Heidegger was a socialist and banned from teaching post war because of his support of the Nazi regime. What is it you want us to learn from him? I have read his work but I wonder why he is the hallmark of intelligence for you?

Hello again, you homosexually obsessed ignorant ass. Being able to SAY "fuck" on the radio is freedom. Then the listener has the freedom to not listen. Instead, a host is banned from saying "fuck" and the listener has no choice. I like the word fuck. I should be able to freely hear it on the radio and in song. But I can't. Because Conservative assholes are offended by mere words. I won't even get into this with you. You don't have the brain capacity to understand.

We're 2 peas in a pod, James. I'm glad I'm not alone in being pissed off as I watch simple freedoms being restricted. "They that give up a little liberty to obtain a little safety deserves neither the safety nor the liberty." You hit the nail right on the head. And this is what pisses me off so much about our current politicians. They openly spit in the face of our founding fathers. It just infuriates me. It's ungrateful, really. I just don't understand how they could dare be so contradictory to our founding principles.

Seat belt laws, as you brought up, are another perfect example of how our Government wants to control everything that we do. Obviously, wearing your seat belt is smart. But a lot of people just don't like them, and find them uncomfortable, and would rather take a chance. My own Dad is one of those people.

And Madison was exactly right. "Gradual and silent encroachments". That is exactly what has been happening in the last 50 years in this country. And the patriot act? The only question in regards to that is how many amendments does it break? I really just wish that the majority would wake the fuck up and see what's happening here. The country we learned about in school is dying year by year.

Looks like I offended some crybaby. That's ok, I love comments like yours. You said nothing in regards to my post. You're just pissed off because of me in general and feel the need to try and be a hard ass. I've dealt with people 10 times better than you, so you can take your shit talking somewhere else because it will never be better than my own.

I listen to real music. You must like rap, or maybe emo. Who knows. How about you tell me what good music is. I talk like an 8th grader? I think that I'll take the opinions of many people who have commented on this blog, emailed me, and messaged me on aim who have told me how well I articulate my words. Just go read some comments, you lazy prick. As for my penis size, I'm italian bitch. I haven't the slightest idea as to what penis envy feels like. I think you're the one who's overcompensating for something. Interestingly enough, you read my profile but didn't read my age.

I don't "hold views". I just tell the truth. And it's painful, isn't it? I don't even post on facethejury. I just have an account there. You're an ignorant shit. Post again and make an even bigger ass out of yourself. I don't know if you can seem any more stupid than you do in this comment though. Good luck topping yourself.

Jeff:
Good talking to you on AIM. And you make a good point that I missed due to being so pissed off. Jeff said it all. I love it when people prove their stupidity in the midst of trying to talk down to someone. He proves my points for me.

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it.

Haha. James owned the anonymous douche. I have no idea who Heideggerr is, but being a socialist and a nazi supporter would probably make him a pretty evil piece of shit. And the anonymous commentator obviously greatly admires him. That would lead us to believe that the anonymous douche is a Nazi and a Socialist.

Great comment James.

This isn't a religious post. This is a post concerning the suppression of freedom in America. So after this, post the bullshit on a religious topic and I will reply there.

The truth is, you blindly believe the "science" in a 2000 year old book. And that is insanity. Do you know what insanity is? My guess is no, you don't because you accept your insanity as normal human behavior. You don't even realize you're insane. It's pretty sad.

Commenting the truth? That doesn't even make sense. Comments are opinion. I can make truthful statements in those comments. And that I do. Facts are facts and opinions are opinions. Science is also science. Science is a progressive field of study. It's just fucking stupid to believe a 2000 year old book over modern day science. You religious fanatics will do anything you can to protect the book. You will force yourself to believe in the most inane of ideas just to protect your book. Just accept the fact that your book is flawed by science.

There are not 4 corners of the earth, and just because we live here, Earth is not the most special planet in the solar system and doesn't get the treatment of the sun revolving around it just because we live here. What separates us from Jupiter is nothing more than the ability to sustain life. Earth got lucky, being the perfect distance from the sun. And there's nothing more to it, buddy. This is science, not 2000 year old fiction.

You blast Matt for saying people are insane for not agreeing with him then you launch a nonsensical trade about the music he listens to.

ah, friends with racists too! so not only do you look like a backwater sisterfucker, you hang out with them too!

i don't make fun of people for their music as long as it isn't soulless corporate "entertainment" that little rich fucks from beverly hills listen to to make them seem hard. i'd never make fun of somebody that listened to charlie parker, jimi hendrix, mahavishnu orchestra, or fugazi. he listens to pantera and korn. bands that care only about playing to 50,000 stead stadiums and charging $18 for their shitty cds and $50 for a shirt from them. yeah, "REAL MUSIC BRAH!"

people that support this music are responsible for honest and passionate music that cares nothing for money or dressing up like clowns and trying to appear hard or making videos for $200,000 to play on MTV having such a difficult time being heard. because people like you aren't smart enough to care about music that matters but only what everyone else is listening to.

then again someone that does drugs and watches wrestling probably isn't going to listen to good music no matter what...

I am going to try to be respectful here because I do respect the law and the risks that police take to enforce it. But.....

How can you say it is a win win for someones rights to be violated?? Money doesn't buy liberty and it only underscores the falseness of another statement that you made and that is that lawyers are wonderful, most of our leaders are lawyers, which only underscores it again.

Lawyers spend their time trying to distort and rewrite the law. They are a main problem with the justice systems though the idiotic juries and moronic judges also don't help.

I saw a story last night about a group of teenagers that are serving life in prison in California. One of them committed a murder so the others that were with him got the same sentence. The prosecutor even considered the death penalty. Meanwhile OJ is out playing golf. I'm not saying they deserved no punishment but where is the equality, where is the justice?

If you want to see more details of the case just Google Brandon Hein

You're not being a Douche Bag, don't worry. I appreciate anyone's honest opinion, especially when it's delivered in a respectful way. And you know what, I will admit that you have posed a point that I didn't think about. And I must admit that the officers are definitely in a bad situation. But I wasn't really being critical of the officers, I was being critical of the law that allows this to happen.

So who do I blame now? I guess you have to blame the people who like to blame others when their children do stupid shit. When a 16 year old dies from alcohol poisoning, because they let their daughter goto a party. They ask "well the cops were there, why didn't you protect my daughter?" A situation like this is probably what caused this law in the first place.

What needs to happen is the police officer needs to have the right to use his own discretion. This man obviously didn't need to be detained for his own protection. But some drunks may need to, but I don't think it's the police's business to be protecting people from themselves. I do appreciate your opinion though, ChopCop.

James:
I think he was being facetious about lawyers. I'm not too sure. I can't tell for sure. However, I agree that lawyers are inherently evil and cold hearted. How could anyone ever do that? I just don't understand that. I could never defend ALL criminals and I could never prosecute ALL criminals. The only way I could see being a lawyer as a thing for someone to do and still maintain their soul is if they had the choice of choosing which cases to defend or prosecute.

California is fucked beyond belief. In my own head, I pretend it's not part of the United States. I just pretend its a small sovereign nation. California is just fucking crazy. Arnold's doing a good job it seems over there, but regardless, how a action film star was elected goes to show what's going on in that state. Don't get me wrong though, I think he's the best guy for the job. But I just really believed at that time that the best man couldn't possibly be elected because even though he was the best type of person imaginable to save California, I just didn't think anyone would vote for him. I didn't think they'd be crazy enough to take a chance. And it isn't just collective intuitiveness or anything like that. They just wanted attention, thats why they voted for him.

But I'm way off subject here. It doesn't surprise me that this happened in California. The prosecutor is obviously a complete fucking scumbag. The two kids who didn't murder are obviously pieces of shit, but to give them the same sentence as the one who pulled the trigger is just completely without logic. That just sends a very bad message.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying the officers didn't follow the law. I am familiar with the Whipple doctrine. I however think the law is immoral and wrong. To me it is just another way Big Brother creeps into our lives.
I cringe when I hear the words I'm from the Government and I'm here to help.
