Hildabitch Panders To Soccer Moms
I love exposing liars. And yes, exaggerating is lying. First off, let's look at the definition of the word "epidemic".
EP·I·DEM·IC: Spreading rapidly and extensively by infection and affecting many individuals in an area or a population at the same time: an epidemic outbreak of influenza. Widely prevalent: epidemic discontent.
Interesting. Please remember this lie in 2008. First of all, a video game can't possibly spread rapidly through infection. It's just not physically possible. Secondly, if she was using it as more of a metaphor, then she would be making the claim that Grand Theft Auto is causing massive horrible effects, on the scale of a fatal disease, and is rapidly effect America. Come on now. Who the fuck is Hildabitch fooling? She's reaching out to conservative America at the expense of my entertainment. Democrats are generally younger. Younger people generally like Grand Theft Auto. Why is this unloyal dyke going betray her base and go towards conservative America? That's not only politically asinine, but just really dishonest.
Here's a good point, that Hildabitch needs to consider. Straight out of Logic Land comes this point. How many kids, whom you wish to protect apparently, actually have 50 bucks to buy this game? Hm? I know I never had 50 bucks to buy any game on my own when I was at an age where such content, as is shown in GTA may be inappropriate. Hell, I didn't even have a way to get to a store to buy a game at an age where GTA's content would could turn me into a prostitute fucking murderer.
The word "parent" comes out of Hildabitch's mouth only once, when she says "There is no doubting the fact that the widespread availability of sexually explicit and graphically violent video games makes the challenge of parenting much harder." If you could have only seen the look on my face when I read that statement. That is just such an asinine statement. There is no doubting that the widespread availability of GTA makes the challenge of parenting much harder? You know, that's so stupid I almost don't know what to say.
Keyword: Almost. There is a lot of doubting that it makes things any harder. Here's what you do. You don't let him play it. How hard is that? If he somehow manages to get it by trade or theft, then you break the CD in half. What's so hard about that? My only question is how can the availability of sexually explicit video games make parenting harder? Parenting never was, and never is easy. What a bitch. She's pandering to the right. Soccer Mom's every rejoice!
I'm just tired of this. I'm tired of the Imperial Government always screwing with the aspects of life that I enjoy. The Internet will be regulated one day. My favorite radio host was kicked off the air because of the Imperial Government. That's something that bothers me every time I feel like listening to the radio at 6 am. Which is often. I'm not allowed by law to put neons under my car. I'm not allowed to have window tint. I'm not allowed to have a more efficient aftermarket exhaust system. I am basically forced to spend $12.95 a month on XM radio so I can hear the music I want to hear unedited. Because God forbid artistic expression be allowed on the radio. I'm not allowed to have a TV in my car, for the passenger, that is visible by me in the driver's seat. If a person can hear music coming from my car anymore than 25 feet away, I'm breaking the law. I am forced to wear my seat belt. Sure, I think its a good idea but I'm still forced. I'm just so fucking tired of Imperial Government telling me what I can and can't do with my property. I'm tired of the massive amounts of controls and regulations. I'm just fed up.
It seems I'm just the type of person who's interests are constantly being fucked with by the government. My interest in Car modifications, my interest in listening to hilarious talk show hosts, my interest in playing violent video games, my interest in angry passionate music, etc. Maybe I should become a senator so I can start banning things I don't like.
The New York Yankees, banned. Their fans, criminals. The Learning Channel, banned. It's viewers? Death penalty. Islam, banned. Its practitioners, deported. MTV, banned. Rednecks, executed. Mustangs, banned. Hollywood, destroyed. Feminists, imprisoned. Bras, banned. Underwear, banned. Thongs, mandatory. The New York Times, banned. John Ashcroft, imprisoned. Al Franken, imprisoned. 3 Doors Down, banned. Rap, banned until the end of all time.
Like I said, I'm just tired of this. It just seems everything I like gets fucked with by the Government, and I'm tired of it. I just really want America to be the Free Country that I learned about in school. Maybe one day, a president will be elected who will clean everything up. Maybe one day, we can actually be free to make our own choices. Maybe just one constitutional amendment will be passed that will change it all. And that is this: No crime shall be made out of an act that does not violate through force or fraud, a person's right to life, liberty, or property. When that constitutional amendment comes around, then we will be free. And when it does, then you increase all the penalties on the real crimes. Then, we will live in a truly free and safe nation.

Oh dear God....
I am sick and tired of idiots like Billary, (Hildabitch, I *love* it!) and everyone else who goes off on video games. Give me a break!
I'm a parent of two, ages 11 and 13. And my 13 year old son bugged me FOREVER to play Grand Theft Auto. So I did my job as a PARENT and found someone with the game. After playing GTA for about 15 seconds, I realized it was not even close to appropriate for a 10 year old. I intended to go home and immediately inform the boy that he WOULD NOT be playing GTA any time soon. It actually took me about 4 hours 'cause I couldn't tear myself away from the xbox and that damn game.
But when I finally did get home, I called him the room and said, "I played GTA, and it's not appropriate for you. Don't ask me again if you can buy it. And you can't play it at friends." He whined as pre-teens tend to do. So I explained WHY I didn't want him playing it.
And you know what? He never asked about it again.
I don't need the government telling me what games MY KIDS can play. *I* will tell them what they can and can not play.
A couple of years later, I gave my son GTA for his 13th birthday. Is it appropriate for any 13 year old? No. But it's OK for my son, at the maturity level he's at. *I* know what his maturity level is, the government does not. They need to stay the hell outta my business.
Au contraire… for a minute there I thought I was reading a completely different article than the one you read. Your interpretation of her comments are wildly inaccurate IMHO.
First off, she was referring to the increasingly widespread availability of this kind of graphic content to young kids as the ‘silent epidemic’, not the video game itself. GTA was an example used. So how does this qualify as a lie?
Second, she’s not talking about banning anything. She’s simply talking about making it harder for kids to access games with really graphic and/or violent content. As a responsible adult, why would you be concerned by such measures?
Third, she wants an investigation into how a mod can be downloaded from the internet to expose either hidden or additional functionality in games such as the GTA case (which one it is, is being fiercely debated by the game creators and the hackers). It’s a valid question. “The Entertainment Software Ratings Board, a self-regulatory ratings arm of the game software industry, is already investigating the issue.” – even the Games Industry itself seems to think there is something to be concerned about here.
Plenty of parents buy these games for their kids and never review them. I completely agree that it’s up the parents, but unfortunately a lot of them fall down on the job. Measures like this are an attempt to protect a vulnerable segment of society (in this case, children) from exposure to this type of content, while at the same time trying to preserve the rights of adults to have free access to it. If they can find a reasonable balance, what’s so bad about that?
She’s trying to appeal to the center, not solely to conservatives. It’s a good strategy, there are plenty of folks who occupy the center ground politically and these are the swing votes that she needs to capture if she’s to get elected in 2008. I’m sure you’d find plenty of parents who class themselves as way ‘left of center’ Liberals who would agree with her too on this issue, not just more conservative people.
In a free and democratic society, you need controls and regulations to help protect people, and in this case children. There will be controls and regulations you agree with, and those you don’t. But society as a whole needs them, otherwise it ceases to function.
So, I am completely at a loss to see how this interferes with your interests.
Dave
Whenever Dave comments, I know I'm in for a long comment.
JT
I personally didn't like the first GTA. It was OK, just not my type of game. But games just like it I do love, plus I love vulgarity in video games. So I defend it anyway, but I definitely understand the appeal. Running around randomly stealing cars from people is cool to do in a video game because sometimes you just really wanna grab some 50 year old asshole and take his Corvette from him and show him how it should be driven. I know I do.
Obviously, you're a good parent. And I also think you're the average parent. But you're a Dad, and Mom's, especially single Mom's, are a lot more susceptible to Hillary's lies.
Individual responsibility. I love it. I'm glad to see I'm not alone on this. Thanks a lot for your insight, JT.
Dave
Dave... Dave, Dave, Dave. My kind liberal friend in Seattle. I will never understand how the liberal mind works. I never will. I'll never understand how they're so anti-war, yet so pro-choice.
I cited the article I used, as I always do. It came straight from USA Today. A reliable source, wouldn't you say? Whatever article you read, I would sure like to see it. You need to cite your references always, Dave.
You asked me how it qualifies as a lie. I said why, but you must have missed it. She exaggerated, and that is the same thing is lying, in my opinion. If it's not lying, then it's lying's ugly cousin. In my eyes, its a lie. It's just not an epidemic. Not literally, and not metaphorically. GTA is making kids fuck whores and steal cars. So how it could possibly be an epidemic metaphorically is beyond me. If I was seeing kids on TV AT LEAST once a week, killing one another and GTA being blamed, I would call it a metaphoric epidemic. Otherwise, she's full of shit. (Lying.)
And there is no widespread availability to kids. Did you even read my post? GTA is rated M. That means you get carded when you buy it! At least everywhere I buy games. Secondly, like I said in my post, kids who are at an age where GTA's content wouldn't be appropriate do not have the money, nor the transportation to somehow come into possession of the game. Regardless, federal law is no substitution for good parenting.
Cite your sources, Dave. I hear her and the other New York senator calling for the federal government to step in. In my opinion, she's inferring they need to be banned. But I'd love to see your article. Either way, kids can't buy this game. There's no point in wasting the time to make it harder for them to. Games are expensive. They don't have that sort of money. Come on, Dave. You know good parenting makes any type of federal legislation irrelevant.
I read an article about this already from Guardian. A newspaper I bet you love. See, I even read the liberal news sites too, if you didn't know. There's nothing to investigate. Someone just needs to inform them. You burn PS2 game to computer. You rip it. You apply readily downloable mod. You reburn. You put it in PS2. What the fuck is there to investigate? If they have a problem, they should go talk to Sony, since they're the ones who should be making discs that are non-copyable. On that's right, they do. The UMD!
"Plenty of parents buy these games for their kids and never review them." I don't even need to respond to anything else. Look at that, man. How can you give a free pass to stupid fucking lazy parents? Come on now. I know you say you agree that its up to the parents, but I know this liberal tactic. It's still a pass for bad behavior. And I'm tired of the parents not getting blamed. Hildabitch needs to come out swinging at the parents, not Rockstar Games. Oh wait, the parents vote! Nevermind that shit.
And I still don't believe she wants to find a balance, as you say. I wouldn't mind so much if she did, but I believe she wants to ban games like this for the profit of votes. And that's disgusting to me. And regardless, making it harder for adults and kids to buy the game is pointless. It isn't needed. That big ass M on the box is all it needs. Are you a gamer, Dave? I am. I know a lot about this. I've been playing games on every console from the first Nintendo to XBox of today. I didn't even buy my first game until I was 18! I couldn't afford to buy one myself until then! Kids aren't buying the games. And if the parents are buying it for them, then they need to deal with it on their own. Hillary is pandering to the right, and betraying you. You're supposed to be liberal and progressive on issues like this, Dave. I think you're just the opposite of me, sometimes.
But don't you see that she's being a fake bitch? Don't you think that's wrong? She probably doesn't even believe any of this shit. She's just pandering... I don't trust her at all. I just want the federal government to leave me, and everything I like the fuck alone.
The game is not, by force or fraud, denying anyone the right to life, liberty, or property. There is no need for regulations. Only lazy parents, who probably shouldn't have kids in the first place, need these types of regulations. Otherwise, people like me, and fathers like JT can do their job raising their child just fine. Without Father Government sticking it's nose in.
"So, I am completely at a loss to see how this interferes with your interests." Dave, I went on a fucking tirade and made specific mentions of like at least 5 things I don't have that I should be able to because the Imperial Government bans everything that is offensive. Maybe she's not pandering to the right. Maybe she's pandering to the religious right.
As always, thanks for the debate Dave. Just do me a favor and cite your sources from now on. Because if I'm misled by an article or I misinterpret it, I do want to know. And I want to be able to rebut the same article you're reading.
Dalyce
Be nice. :P
It's sickening that the government feels the need to step in all the time and do what's best for us and that the people actually agree that they know what's best for us. *I feel so sheepish* :/
I'm sure you would find plenty of lefties to agree with this as it has all the hallmarks of a lefty.
Emotional non issue, knee jerk reaction, solution that fixes nothing except to pass more legislation that isn't needed.
Plenty of parents buy these games for their kids and never review them. I completely agree that it’s up the parents, but unfortunately a lot of them fall down on the job.
Lucky we have big brother to step in right? Isn't that what is behind all of this? If as you say parents are buying these for the kids then how is any of this going to stop that?!? As you said the Ratings association is already investigating so why does congress need to get involved.
Hillary is a media whore thats why. There is nothing to be done or seen here but its a quick cheap headline that on its surface sounds great to non thinking types and makes her look like she cares about children. She also thinks she is appealing to the right by attacking on the morals issue. All fluff and no substance but the sheep will like it.
IslndNumph
Thanks for the comment. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who feels the hot breath of the government in my life every day.
James The Wise
You know James, I recently got XM. The more I listen to Air America, the more I realize that 1) I didn't fully understand liberals and 2) They're fucking nuts. Seriously.
You make a very good point, James. And the government doesn't need to get involved at all. She's talking out of her ass just to seem warm and fuzzy to, exactly as you called them, the "non-thinking types." They hear it, process it, think she's not so bad, and never think about it again. All they remember is the end opinion which is "Maybe Hillary isn't too bad." The sheep will like it. It'll make them feel all warm and fuzzy about her. I'm very worried that dark days are coming in 2008.
As always, thanks for the comment James.
Dalyce
Shouldn’t you be reading something more suitable for your age group, like Harry Potter?
Matt
Is it really that difficult for you to read something I write and grasp the intended meaning? You do this time and again – so let me explain what I was trying to say in my post.
You want me to cite my sources? Sure, no worries. But I read exactly the same articles you did; you have them linked in your post. “for a minute there I thought I was reading a completely different article than the one you read.” In other words, I read the same article(s) as you and came to a totally different conclusion…
"GTA is making kids fuck whores and steal cars. So how it could possibly be an epidemic metaphorically is beyond me." Now let’s read what I wrote again - "First off, she was referring to the increasingly widespread availability of this kind of graphic content to young kids as the ‘silent epidemic’, not the video game itself". Got it this time?
So what if GTA is rated ‘M’? Does that mean if a parent goes to buy the game that they get carded? Nope. Kids can’t get their hands on this stuff? Who are you kidding? Matt the Pure never tried to get his hands on a dirty mag when he was a young kid? Give me a break. Kids and teenagers find a way to get their hands on things that they are told not to go near, they always do.
The call for an investigation into the downloadable mod is valid, but who should carry it out is debatable. Personally I think it should be the gaming industry that takes care of that, self regulate. I don’t think it’s an issue for the Feds but unless the gaming industry cleans up their own act, then the Feds will step in, especially when people like Hillary continue to push it as an issue. It should not be possible for the game to be modified in that way, and if the claims that the offending code was already on the discs shipped to the customers proves to be true then that’s really bad. James will probably remember this one, when the practice of programmers inside Microsoft adding in ‘Easter Eggs’ (or ‘undocumented features’) into the source code of MS products was banned – mainly for legal reasons.
USA Today as a reliable source? Since they pull most of their content directly from the AP (Associated Press) then I guess it should be. I wouldn’t class it as a good paper at all though, it’s main purpose from what I can see is as a quick read for traveling Americans around the world to get up to speed on the news from home. You’ll see USA Today in almost every city in the world.
The Guardian, yes it’s a good paper, but it is an English paper and any left wing views expressed there don’t often correlate with the view of Liberals in the US.
The point of my post was that IMHO you had misinterpreted what she had said, and that what she was proposing shouldn’t have any impact on your ability or rights to access such games as an adult. Do I think the measures will have the intended impact, probably not - but that’s not her ultimate goal here.
Hillary is pandering to more than just the right, I would completely agree with you, that’s what I said previously – she’s trying to appeal to both sides of the fence. Unfortunately morality has become a huge issue here and one that has been hijacked by the Republicans of late. This is a first step by Democrats to try to stem that tide. It’s what politicians do, pick a topic that will appeal to their chosen target audience and build up a profile as someone who cares passionately about that topic. The great masses don’t really think too much about it and got with what sounds good at the time. I agree with both you and James on this. But don’t make it out that this is something unique to people like Hillary. The Republicans do it all the time too; they pick and choose the issues that they know will energize their base and maybe grab some votes from the other side too. Politicians just need to pimp the message in the right way. The last Presidential election was a classic example of that.
It reminds me of a brilliant quote made many years ago: "Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first." – Ronald Reagan
Dark days are coming in 2008? How can they possibly be any darker than the 8 years that will have preceded them?
Dave
Dave
She does, and is reading Harry Potter. Douche bag.
Once again, I skim through your entire comment looking for a blue link, and I see nothing. Obviously, you have reading comprehension problems. I understand. I know it's hard Dave, but focus. WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT SOMETHING, CITE YOUR SOURCE.
Yes, it is very, very difficult to read anything a liberal is writing and grasp their intended meaning.
Yes, Dave. If anyone who looks like they're under 27 attempts to buy an M rated game, they get carded. I just called my local Walmart and asked them this. When I bought Halo 2, I was carded. And that game is nothing compared to what's in GTA. I bet you feel stupid. You still don't acknowledge the fact that kids don't have 50 bucks lying around to go and purchase this game. It isn't a 3 dollar porno mag, to use your analogy.
It's pretty difficult already for kids to get M rated games. And if they do, so what? I've watched R rated movies since I was 8. Maybe even younger. My Mom didn't care, she owned a video store. I will even bet that you looked at a porn magazine before you were old enough to buy one. Did you turn into a sexual deviant? I think not. Even if all the youngsters are playing this game, it's still a fake issue. It's a game.
The call for an investigation into a downloadable mod is not valid. Time should not be wasted on this fake issue. Rockstar Games doesn't care if anyone mods their games. That's what games do. They mod. It's a respectable thing. Most game companies don't care, because it just means they like their game that much. It's a fake issue.
It's not an issue, Dave. It's a fake, feel good issue. No one really cares. Where's Hillary on the borders? Hmm? Because I know plenty of people who are pissed about that. But she really needs that hispanic vote.
You can't compare the biggest company on planet earth to Rockstar Games! Are you nuts? Easter eggs are always in every game. Come on now, are we going to ban easter eggs too? This is Rockstar Games' style. I've played many of their titles, and I find them all great. You should see manhunt. The whole premise of the game is to kill as many people as possible in the most gruesome way possible. You get all kinds of different weapons from meat hooks to plastic bags. Best game ever. Not like Hillary would come out against that game or anything. Open your eyes, Dave. It's a fake issue. And seeing as she's a prominent leader for the democrats, I'd be pissed if I were you. But I suspect you'll go along with anything she says.
USA Today is reliable... What? Guardian, good? They once posted an article calling for the assassination of president Bush. They're beyond left wing. They're bordering on Communist.
Well, I'm going to have to disagree. I didn't misinterpret what she said. She exaggerated, and that's lying. To call a video game a silent epidemic is to lie. The real silent epidemic is the mexicans flooding our boarders.
Wether it's Hillary or Bush coming out against things that I like, I'm going to defend them. If any politicians try to ban anything that isn't a real crime, I'll bitch about it.
I'll admit that Bush sucks. Period. Although, I put a little stock in the possibility that there could be a lot of stuff behind the scenes that the public hasn't seen, like averted terror attacks. Keywords: little stock. And I believe if Hillary is elected in 08, then our country will be ultimately doomed. 8 years of Bush and at least 4 of Hillary will put the nail in the coffin.
Dave I cant comment on most of what you said because I found it rambling and incoherent at best. I think you agree with us but you don't. Is that like when you post things that are contrary to what you believe? I don't know. But I will comment on the one thing you said I know about.
The reason we had to stop putting Easter Eggs in to MS products. Which we actually didn't have to do except for products that were being sold to the government. Government software cant have undocumented features because of SECURITY CONCERNS.
You should see the stack of white papers the government gets with their software documenting each feature API calls and the like.
Saying it shouldn't be possible to mod a game that way just shows a basic lack of understanding about programming. I understand that this is my area of expertise and a lot of people don't know it and I'm not slamming you for it, but I'm telling you its just wrong.
You can mod any software to do anything you want with enough time money and desire. Its especially easy to mod games because they are based on models(game characters) all you have to do is tell them what to do with your code. Its like using templates to put it in layman's terms.
James does it again. You deserve a medal.
I didn’t get time to respond until now (7/20).
Matt
If I’m giving you my personal opinion, I don’t generally need to cite any sources. For the 3rd time, I read the same articles that you referenced, but came to some very different conclusions. I live in a pretty wealthy city, and there are plenty of kids here under the age of 17 with $50 to drop on games like this. Since you know I live in Seattle, I didn’t think I needed to acknowledge that fact.
But it seems like this issue has moved on somewhat and that Hilary isn’t the only one with something to say about it, and that the offending code was there all along:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8647176/ . It’ll be interesting to see how this all ends up.
In my opinion, the Guardian is a good paper. It’s certainly a thought-provoking read, if a little controversial at times. But there are plenty of right-wing papers out there too. And since you like people to cite sources, the article you refer to has been pulled from their web site, but can be read here: http://www.fritzmiller.com/george/brooker.html#. Turns out, the author claimed it was ironic humor – now where I heard that excuse being used before? (Sorry Matt, couldn’t resist). ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguide/tvradio/story/0,14676,1335307,00.html)
Where’s Hilary on the borders? I would be more inclined to ask where’s President Bush on the broken-borders issue, after all he is the one who should be doing something out it. He comes from Texas where hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants pour across the border every year, he speaks fluent Spanish and relied heavily on the Hispanic vote in some areas of the country to help boost his numbers in the last election, and seems to have completely ignored the problem throughout his presidency. Watch Lou Dobbs on CNN every day and you’ll soon get a very disturbing picture. This is the same President who just this week wants to push through an agreement with India on sharing nuclear technology (supposedly for power plants), a nuclear power who has not signed up to the Non-proliferation Act. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8620995/
How all this helps America in the so called ‘War on Terror’ I do not know. If I was an American, I wouldn’t give a shit what Hilary thinks about anything, she may never be President – but I would be getting increasingly alarmed about your current President.
James
I’m sorry you find my writing rambling and incoherent; I’ll try and keep any future posts shorter. I actually got the same memo about Easter Eggs, and from what I recall it was pretty clear about no more Easter Eggs, period. But what you say about the security concerns being the main reason is correct, now that I think back to that time.
I know that the whole area of mods being used to prolong a game’s life is really popular, and I do have a basic understanding of how this works (but am not a dev by profession like you). It turns out the offending code was shipped with the product (as I had assumed it probably was); which makes the mod’ing offense here a lot less serious. Had it been the other way around, then I would have needed a lot of convincing that easily allowing these types of modifications to be made to shipped code is a good idea. I know it can be done, but whether it’s a good idea or not is still debatable, at least in my mind.
