Gerald Ford = The Dead
With that being said, I believe it would be my responsibility to say Who fucking cares? Oh, and I do believe I should throw out a "Fuck Gerald Ford." It's true, Gerald Ford is a scum bag, a disgrace, and the fact that he is a President means dick to me. He wasn't a real president. He was not elected. Sure, he was Nixon's running mate, but come on now. No one votes because of the vice president.
Here's what you have to realize. The presidency of the United States is about the biggest position of power in the world. With that position comes the biggest responsibility in the world: Morality. It is in fact, the highest position of morality in the world, excluding Joey Ratts over there at the Vatican.
So we have this end all - be all of morality, the Presidency of The United States of America. President Nixon, the man that was actually voted in by the People. Nixon was, by all accounts, a motherfucking crook. He was a thief, a liar, and a terribly despicable human being. He was a fucking lawyer. History has Nixon penned as a scumbag and a lying thief. He was corrupt, and that's a fact. Business accounts for personal use, serious and intentional tax evasion, sending a massive number of American men to die in Vietnam for absolutely no good reason. This isn't even to mention his horrible fucking domestic policies like SSI, OSHA, and affirmative fucking action. He was even disbarred by the State of New York. What a motherfucker.
Oh yeah, and Ford was his Vice President. Ford was the Vice President when Nixon decided it would be a good idea to use Presidential powers to do illegal things and fuck with the Democratic Party. You know, things like spying, wire tapping, and breaking and entering. All under his control. Of course, he was caught and he resigned under great shame.
But wait! Who was there to save the day? Ford was, of course. As soon as Nixon left office, Ford granted him a presidential blanket pardon. This translates to: You can't even think about indicting him because I'll grant him a pardon for anything he would be indicted with, so don't waste the time. So Nixon, the fucking thief, walked. Did Ford trade a pardon for the presidency? Did Nixon pay him? We'll never know. But as far as I'm concerned. Ford was Nixon's partner. Ford knew what was going on. Ford knew he was a thief and scumbag and he still supported him.
He cannot distance himself from the scum that is Nixon. He was just as big of a scumbag because he stopped nothing, he allowed all the immoral bullshit to occur, and he was in bed watching. He was just as big of a culprit as Nixon in my opinion. He was a thief and a scumbag who happened to be a bigger scumbag's vice president. Lucky.
So fuck him. I don't give a shit that he died. I'm glad he died. He should have died the day Nixon died, so you could have gotten rid of all the stink they left on this country. The stupid big headed fuck. He did nothing, and he was a nothing. He was just the guy that prevented Nixon from going to jail. He was a nothing president. And I'm going to be really fucking annoyed all day long because I will have to hear about all the nothing he did. The flags will fly at half mass, all for a man who aided and allowed a fucking thieving corrupt piece of shit. The man who allowed that thieving corrupt piece of shit to avoid justice.
That's what kind of man Ford was. He was a man who believed certain people were above the law, a man who proved that he was no moral judgement whatsoever. He was a man who thought that spying, wiretapping, tax evasion, sending men to die in Viatnam, breaking and entering, and lying about it all was just fine. He was a man that let the biggest disgrace to the Presidency of our country avoid the prison time he deserved so he could write books and steal more money. Fuck that you Fucking Ford. You deserve no remembrance, you fucking ghoul.

Matt,
I do not agree with your view of Ford. Firstly, he was not Nixon's running mate. He was appointed to VP by Nixon when Spiro Agnew resigned as VP. He became President 8 months later. To assume that he was as corrupt as Nixon is purely speculation on your part.
Although I agree with most of your assesment of Nixon, Vietman was well underway before he became President. It was Nixon who actually got us out of Vietman.
Again, you can't "credit" Nixon with "affirmative action" as defined in contemporary terms. It was JFK who made the first reference to affirmative action by signing an executive order in 1961 mandating that federally funded projects must "take affirmative action" to ensure that hiring practices are free from racial bias. That specifically included advertising for these employment opportunities in non-traditional media. From there it has morphed into today's contemporary definition which is a policy based on race, making it (by definition) racism.
Nixon resigned in disgrace knowing that he faced certain impeachment. At least he knew when to get out. Other former President don't, even though they have in fact been impeached. I would argue that Ford brought morality back to the White House. Pardoning Nixon was a the only way to keep Watergate and a tainted Presidency out of the headlines for the next 4+ years. It took the attention away Nixon and Watergate and focused the executive office back on the business of running the country. Ford knew that it was a very unpopular descision,it was not about favors for Nixon, it was about the bigger picture and what was good for the country at the time. It cost him his re-election.
Which brings me to Jimmy Carter... a very intelligent and moral man who happens to have been a very lousy President. That is just my opinion.
Do your homework, Matt. You're better than that
Matt,
I understand that you hadn't been born when all of this happened, but I don't understand the reference to your parents. I'm sure you read all morning. However, some of your facts were incorrect, which made it appear as though you had not done your due diligence. I stand by my accusation. I've come to expect more from you which is why I frequent this blog.
I never said that I thought Ford was a great President, I don't. I think he was mediocre at best. I just don't share your visceral hatred for the man. I do agree that the pardon did help the Republican party by keeping it out of the papers, but I don't agree that that was his motivation. I cannot agree with your assertion that Ford had knowledge of what Nixon did because "he was on the inside". Ford was not "on the inside" when Watergate happened. Nixon never confided in anyone, so to assume that Ford had prior knowledge of what Nixon was up to is baseless. I'm all for justice, but you can't lump Ford in with Nixon and his ilk based on guilt by association.
By the way, I would argue that Al Gore was Vice President of the most crooked fucked up President in American history. Who did that President pardon? I hope you haven't reserved all of your passion for justice for Nixon and Ford.
